
Pippen’s Late Layup Secures Win Over Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio- Senior Danny Pippen converted on a layup off an inbound pass with 21 seconds remaining as the Kent State men's basketball team (11-5, 8-4 MAC) secured a 71-67 victory over Bowling Green at the Stroh Center on Tuesday night.
Senior Tervell Beck led the Flashes' scoring efforts and tied his career-high with 18 points. Beck also added four rebounds and four assists. Pippen secured his seventh double-double performance of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Jeremiah Hernandez scored a career-high 11 points, while junior Gabe O'Neal rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points on 4-of-4 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.
Kent State led 69-67 over the final two minutes of the game as neither team could knock down a bucket. With 21 seconds remaining, the Flashes inbounded under their basket as Pippen somehow found space and beat the shot clock for a layup that put the Flashes ahead, 71-67. Bowling Green pushed down the floor and missed on an open layup as the Flashes would pull off the 71-67 victory.
Despite being down 10-3 early in the first half, Kent State used a 19-5 run go ahead, 22-15 lead with 7:25 left in the opening half. The Flashes found themselves up by double-figures at 38-38 with 2:01 left before the break, but back-to-back layups by the Falcons closed the half on a run and sent the Flashes into the Locker room with a 38-32 lead.
For the game, the Flashes shot 43.3 percent from the floor and connected on 31.8 percent from long range. Kent State was able to get to the line and made 12-of-13 from the charity stripe. Bowling Green shot 40 percent for the game and was led by Justin Turner with 18 points.
The Flashes return home on Saturday, Feb. 13 as Kent State hosts Northern Illinois at the M.A.C. Center. Tip time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
