
Flashes Aim to Punch NCAA Championships Tickets at East Prelims

The Kent State track and field program sent 10 student-athletes to Jacksonville for the 2021 NCAA East Preliminary Round, which is being held May 26-29 at the University of North Florida.
The top 48 declared student-athletes in each individual event will compete this week at Jax Track at Hodges Stadium. The top 12 performers will advance to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon.
Women's throwers Gabby Bailey and Grace Tennant, as well as men's sprinter Asa Hodrick will compete it a pair of events, giving the Golden Flashes 13 total entries at the meet.
Scott Benco and Jake Wickey will get Kent State started on Wednesday's first day of competition at 1:30 p.m. Benco will throw in the first flight of the men's javelin, while Wickey is part of the third flight of the men's hammer. Kristian Kneffler rounds out the field competitors for the day with the men's pole vault at 3 p.m. Asa Hodrick will represent the Flashes on the track in the men's 100-meter dash at 7 p.m. and men's 200-meter dash at 8:45 p.m. Hodrick will advance to the next round on Friday evening by finishing in the top three in his heat or the top six among those who were not top-three finishers.
Leah Pasqualetti is slated to begin the action on Thursday in the women's pole vault at 3 p.m. Gabby Bailey and Grace Tennant will compete in the women's shot put, an event both earned top-10 national finishes in during the indoor season, at 6 p.m. The day will close with Ruby Greenwood running the women's 400-meter dash at 7:25 p.m. Greenwood will advance to the next round on Saturday evening by finishing in the top three in her heat or the top six among those who were not top-three finishers.
Kent State's jumpers will be in action on Friday. Gavin Schoeneman will compete in the men's high jump at 1 p.m., with Anthony Milliner to follow at 3:15 p.m. in the men's triple jump.
Bailey and Tennant will conclude the weekend in the women's discus throw, which is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
