JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Leah Pasqualetti and Gabby Bailey qualified for the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships as the Kent State women's track and field team had four student-athletes in action at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Thursday.
Leah Pasqualetti got the day started for the Golden Flashes by punching her ticket to Eugene, Oregon in the pole vault. After passing on the first two bars of the competition, Pasqualetti cleared her first attempts at 13'-4.25" and 13'-8.25". She was unable to clear the bar at 14'-0", which would have tied her own school record set on May 16. Only seven athletes succeeded at this height, and Pasqualetti tied for eighth.
For the second time during her Kent State career, Gabby Bailey advanced to the national meet in the shot put. Bailey's throw of 54'-7.50" on her first attempt was followed by two fouls, and she placed 10th. Grace Tennant finished 21st in the event with a top mark of 52'-2.50" on her first throw.
On the track, Ruby Greenwood crossed the line in 47.03 seconds to finish 48th in the 400-meter dash.
Gavin Schoeneman and Anthony Milliner will be in action for the Flashes on Friday. Schoeneman is scheduled to compete in the men's high jump at 1 p.m., while Milliner is slated for the men's triple jump at 3:15 p.m. Bailey and Tennant will bring Kent State's time at the NCAA East Preliminary Round to a close in the women's discus throw at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
