KENT, OHIO- In advance of Friday night's open scrimmage, we are taking a look at the new members of the Kent State football team, starting with the additions to the FlashFAST offense in the 2021 offseason.Â
Naran Buntin | Middletown, NJ | Mater Dei | Wide Receiver | 6-2 |180
Buntin was a big-play wide receiver for Mater Dei High School in New Jersey. Buntin averaged over 17 yards a catch as a senior, helping the Seraphs to a 5-2 record. Buntin also ran track and field for Mater Dei.Â
Shakhi Carson | West Orange, NJ | West Orange | Running Back | 5-9 | 182
Carson is a versatile back out of West Orange High School in New Jersey. As a senior, he averaged nearly seven yards a carry and 10 touchdowns as a rusher and nearly 10 yards a catch out of the backfield. He was also a threat in the return game for the Mountaineers returning a kick for a score as junior in the state playoffs.Â

Kicked for four seasons for Wheeling Park…Rated a 4.5 star kicker by Kohl's Kicking…Made 12-of-15 field goals in high school with long of 47…Recorded 16 touchbacks on kickoffs in high school career including nine during senior season
Aaron Hackett | Venice, FL | Venice (Syracuse) | Tight End | 6-3 | 237
Graduate transfer from Syracuse…Tied for Syracuse's all-time lead in touchdown receptions by a tight end (9) ... Played in 45 games with 19 starts … Valuable contributor on special teams, returning nine kickoffs for 92 yards (10.2 avg.) ... Recorded 37 career receptions for 311 yards (8.4 avg.) and nine touchdowns, including six scores in 2019…  Ranked the No. 58 tight end in the nation by Scout.com … ESPN's No. 31 Y-tight end … PrepStar All-Southeast Region honoreeÂ
Magnus Haines | Massillon, OH | Massillon | Kicker/Punter | 5-11 | 180
Kicked for four seasons for Massillon, earning All-Ohio honors in his junior and senior seasons…Averaged 41.6 yards per punt as a senior with a long of 60 and 11 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line…Recorded 11 touchbacks while handling kick-off duties
Marcus Harris | Radcliff, KY | North Hardin | Wide Receiver | 6-2 |180
Harris helped North Hardin to a 10-2 record in 2020. He is also a big-play receiver, averaging over 17 yards per catch in his high school career. As a junior, he enjoyed a breakout season, hauling in seven touchdowns good for second on the team, and helped lead North Hardin to the state title game. A 4.0 student, Harris also received a student-athlete award from the Rotary Club.Â
Ian Kipp | Mentor, OH | Mentor | Quarterback | 6-2 | 195
A two-time All-State quarterback for Mentor…Threw for 2,048 yards and 26 scores as a senior…Rushed for 384 yards and seven scores…Named Co-Division-I Offensive Player of the Year and a finalist for Mr. Football as a junior after throwing for 2,314 yards and 24 touchdowns while rushing for 883 yards and 16 scores
Casey Magyar| Dublin, OH | Dublin Coffman | Kicker | 5-11|165
Magyar is a second-team All-Ohio and first-team All-District kicker out of the Columbus suburb of Dublin. Went a perfect 38-38 on extra points and had 55 touchbacks in nine games.Â
Pat McQuaide| Solon, OH | Solon | Quarterback | 5-11|177
McQuaide played quarterback, safety and long snapper for Solon but comes to Kent State as a quarterback…He was a three-time all-conference and two-time all-district quarterback for the Comets.
Taj Mustapha | Southfield, MI | West Bloomfield (Wisconsin) | Wide Receiver | 6-0| 185
Played three seasons for the Badgers, seeing action on special teams and at receiver…Caught first career touchdown pass against New Mexico… Three-star recruit by 247 Sports, ESPN and Rivals … First-team all-state by Associated Press as a senior … Named to Dream Team by Detroit News and Detroit Free Press as a senior … Honorable mention all-state as a junior and sophomore
Devontez Walker | Charlotte, N.C. | West Charlotte (NC Central) | Wide Receiver | 6-3 | 175
Originally signed by North Carolina Central but did not play a game for the Eagles after the cancellation of the 2020 season…Earned All-Conference honors in high school after topping 1,000 yards receiving for West Charlotte…Rated a three-star prospect by 247 Sports.
Wilson Yee | Denver, CO | Mullen (Independence CC) | Kicker/Punter | 5-11 | 180
Joins the Golden Flashes after kicking at Independence (Kansas) Community College …Named All-Conference in 2020 after he connected on 10-of-12 field goals with a long of 42 and on 27-of-30 extra points…Rated a four-star kicker and 4.5 star punter by Kohl's Kicking…Had a long field goal of 42 in high school and averaged 40 yards per punt for Mullen High School.
Friday night's scrimmage will start at 7 p.m. at Dix Stadium. Admission is free and open to the public.Â
