(KENT, Ohio) - The Kent State women's soccer team looks to continue its regular season success on the road Sunday at 2Â P.M. when they travel to Oakland.
About the Flashes
Kent State heads into this game against Oakland with a 3-2 record, coming off of a week of rest since their previous game last Sunday at Northwestern. In that affair, the Flashes came out firing on all cylinders, putting up two straight goals in the first half before the favored Wildcats even knew what had hit them. Ultimately though, Northwestern prevailed, giving Kent State their second loss of the season in a valiant road effort.
For her efforts in both of Kent State's games over the weekend, which also include a 6-0 home victory over Canisius last Thursday, redshirt senior defender Karly Hellstrom was named this week's Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, after scoring a goal in the Canisius game and tacking on an assist against Northwestern. Freshman midfielder Sienna Stambolich, redshirt sophomore Lauryn Arruda, and sophomore defender Dalaney Ranallo all picked up three points each over the weekend as well.
About the Golden Grizzlies
Oakland enters this game with a 1-6 record on the season, having most recently lost to Michigan State on Thursday, 2-0. Not much of an offensive powerhouse, the Golden Grizzlies only have three total goals through seven games, all by different players: Macey Wierenga, Jackie Reilly, and Sami Lopez. Additionally, against Michigan State, the Spartans were able to get 11 corner kicks, while Oakland only managed to get two over the course of the game.
Kent State has only played Oakland twice, going 1-0-1 against the Golden Grizzlies in 2013 and 2014. However, those games were played under the direction of head coach Rob Marinaro, who's currently in his 21st season leading the Flashes.
