
Kent State Loses Five-Set Battle to Duquesne

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State volleyball team concluded the non-conference portion of the schedule with a 3-2 (23-25, 25-21, 25-15, 21-25, 14-16) loss to Duquesne on Saturday in the final match of the Golden Flashes Invitational.
The Golden Flashes (5-7) were led offensively by senior Melissa Kolurbasi, who had a season-high 19 kills. Senior Danie Tyson added 13 kills and junior Taylor Heberle had 11 kills while receiving her most front row action of the season. Redshirt senior Alex Haffner recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 52 assists and 15 digs.
Kent State totaled 13 aces, the most in a match since 2006. Juniors Gracey Jarecke and Savannah Matthews and freshman Kiersten Kraus led the way with three aces apiece.
Sophomore Bryn Roberts led all players with 26 digs and Jarecke added 11 digs. Freshman Ainsley Guse had a team-high five total blocks.
The Flashes begin Mid-American Conference play next weekend at the M.A.C. Center against Ball State.
