Field Hockey Sweeps Mid-American Conference Player of the Week Awards

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State sophomore Jenna McCrudden and fifth year Azure Fernsler captured the Mid-American Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards after two outstanding performances this past week against #22 Ohio State and #14 Syracuse, as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon. This marks the second week in a row a Kent State student-athlete has won the Offensive Player of the Week award with sophomore Katie Wuerstle winning it last week.
McCrudden was instrumental in the Flashes upset victories over Ohio State and Syracuse. Getting all three of her shots on target, she netted two game winners including an exhilarating one in overtime against Syracuse. McCrudden's goals gave Kent State leads they would never relinquish, ultimately defeating the Buckeyes 3-1 and the Orange 2-1.
Fernsler was a brick wall in both of Kent State's victories. Facing a total of 26 shots over the two games, Fernsler only allowed one to get past her in each game recording a total of 12 saves. Her dominance in goal helped the Flashes secure their two come from behind wins.
Kent State seeks to climb the national rankings this weekend with a pair of top-25 showdowns at Lakeside Field in Evanston, Illinois. The Flashes will battle #5 Northwestern on Friday and then #25 Maine on Saturday. Both contests are scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
