KENT, Ohio – The Kent State men's basketball team (7-7, 2-2 MAC) begins its two-game home stand on Tuesday evening against Northern Illinois (3-8, 0-1 MAC) at 7 p.m., inside the M.A.C. Center.
After winning back-to-back games in Mid-American Conference play, the Flashes dropped their most recent game at the hands of Ohio. The Flashes trailed by as many as 18 in the second half against the Bobcats but nearly pulled off the impossible, closing within two points late in the game before Ohio thwarted the Flashes' comeback attempt.
Sincere Carry continued his MAC dominance, recording a season-high 26 points for the second straight game. Carry added eight rebounds and six assists, all of which came during the second half comeback.
The Flashes sink to 2-2 in Mid-American Conference play and will look to get back in the winning column against Northern Illinois. Carry is averaging 23.3 points per game in MAC games along with 5.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game in conference play.
Kent State has struggled shooting the ball from beyond the arc but has been dominating in the paint over the past two games. The Flashes scored 38 points in the paint against the Cardinals and followed that up with a 32-point performance against Ohio.
Scouting the Huskies
The Huskies played their first MAC game on Saturday against Toledo after a 20-day layoff without a game. They saw their first couple conference games postponed before taking a hefty 94-63 loss at the hands of the Rockets.
NIU's leading scorer on the year is Keshawn Williams. He averages a hair under 14 points per game but did not play in the Toledo game. Kaleb Thornton and Edward Manuel were the only Huskies in double figures with 12 and 11 points in the conference opener, respectively.
The Huskies are scoring just 57.3 points per game and have scored 60 or fewer points in six of their 11 contests. NIU ranks last in the MAC in scoring and field goal percentage. The Huskies have solid interior rim protectors, ranking third in the conference in blocked shots. They had a MAC single game best 14 blocked shots in a single game against Washington earlier this season.
