Flashes Wrap Up Day One at Virginia Duals

HAMPTON, VA- Louis Newell picked up a pair of victories, leading the Golden Flashes against Maryland and Oklahoma on day one at the Virginia Duals.
MARYLAND 25 KENT STATE 14
In the opening dual of the weekend, the Flashes dropped a tough decision to the Maryland Terrapins, 25-14.
Jake Ferri picked up his 15th win of the season to start things off, handing Tommy Capul a major decision. Ferri led nearly wire-to-wire and recorded his top point total so far this season in a 21-8 victory. Louis Newell and Enrique Munguia each ground out victories to start their weekends off on a solid note. Newell held off Danny Bertoni 6-4 for his 14th win of the year and Munguia earned his 11th win of the season and second straight, earning a 7-4 win over Lucas Cordio. Brady Chrisman matched Ferri's major decision with one of his own. Chrisman picked up his ninth win of the year and third-straight, all by major decision in a 11-0 shutout of Gaven Bell.
OKLAHOMA 32 KENT STATE 7
Newell continued his strong wrestling against the Sooners, earning victory number 15 of the season, tying him with Ferri for the team lead. Newell outlasted Jacob Butler 3-2 to get the Flashes on the board in the night cap. Cover closed out day one with a strong 12-4 victory by major decision.
The full results of the two duals are listed below. The Flashes are back in action tomorrow for day two of the duals against UT-Chattanooga and Virginia.
