Flashes Knock off Mocs To Close Virginia Duals

HAMPTON, VA- The Golden Flashes picked up a 18-13 win over UT-Chattanooga to close out the Virginia Duals on Saturday.
The Flashes also wrestled extra matches versus Virginia following the dual with the Mocs. Jake Ferri made it a 2-1 week and improved to 16-6 on the season, knocking off Fabian Gutierrez, who came into the match at 10-4 on the year. Ferri grinded out a 6-5 decision to put Kent State up early. After the Mocs took two close decisions, Kody Komara tied the dual with a low-scoring 2-1 victory over Noah Castillo, who dropped to 10-5 on the season.
Kent State closed the dual in perfect form, winning each of the final four matches. Michael Ferree started the run with a 7-4 victory of Carial Tarter. Colin McCracken doubled up Matthew Waddell 6-3 and cut the Mocs lead to 13-12. Tyler Bates put the Flashes up for good with a 8-4 victory by decision and Jacob Cover made it a 2-1 week with a dual-clinching 4-0 shutout over Matthais Ervin.
The victory gives the Flashes some momentum as they re-enter Mid-American Conference play next Sunday. Kent State hosts the Buffalo Bulls inside the M.A.C. Center, the dual is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
