YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Kent State men's basketball team (9-8, 4-3 MAC) picked up its second-straight Mid-American Conference win on Tuesday night, 56-47, against Eastern Michigan (7-9, 1-3 MAC) inside the George Garvin GameAbove Center.
The Flashes used suffocating defense against EMU all night, holding the Eagles to just 25 percent (11-for-43) from the field and 12 percent from three (3-for-24). Kent State forced 19 turnovers, the most against any D-1 opponent this season.
It was Malique Jacobs who led the charge on the defensive end, recording a season-high four steals and blocking two shots along with numerous deflections. His energy was matched by the rest of the Golden Flashes in the first half, holding EMU to just 17 total points. Jacobs also led the Flashes in scoring with 17 points and added five rebounds.
Sincere Carry submitted yet another masterful road performance, this time only scoring 11 points. His impact on the defensive end and as a distributor guided the Flashes to victory. As the primary defender on EMU's leading scorer, Noah Farrakhan, he held him to just one point on 0-for-7 shooting. Carry also posted six assists, five boards and two steals.
The Flashes received production off the bench in the form of one of the hottest shooters in the MAC, Tervell Beck, who scored 11 points. Beck went 3-for-4 from long range and is shooting 47 percent from beyond the arc in MAC games. Justyn Hamilton added five points and four rebounds off the bench.
The Flashes led by as many 15 in the second half and pulled away from the Eagles down the stretch. They forced the ball in the paint and EMU had no answer. Kent State outscored the Eagles 34-12 in the paint.
It was the first time Kent State has held a MAC opponent under 50 points since a 61-47 victory over Ball State on Jan. 12, 2013. The Flashes held Eastern Michigan under 50 points for the first time since Jan. 27, 2009.
