MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Redshirt senior Tianna Harris scored a brace as the Kent State soccer team mounted a late comeback to secure a 2-2 draw on the road against Mid-American Conference foe Central Michigan on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Flashes (4-6-7, 4-1-5 MAC) secure a crucial point in the push for a postseason berth with the result, while Central Michigan (2-10-5, 1-5-4 MAC) has now tied in two of its last three matches.
Central Michigan took control of the match early, taking a two-goal lead into the halftime break. But the Flashes dominated the second half, keeping the ball in the attacking half of the field for the majority of the final 45 minutes. Harris put the Flashes on the board in the 67th minute, blasting a shot into the right side of the net off of a perfect entry pass from freshman Abby Breitschuh. It was the second goal of the season for Harris, and Breitschuh's assist was the first of her collegiate career.
Just seven minutes later, Harris took matters into her own hands once again, knocking home the equalizer after Central Michigan's keeper was unable to handle a free kick by sophomore Alisa Arthur. The ball bounced off of the keeper's gloves and fell to Harris' feet and she capitalized on the opportunity. Neither team could find the golden goal in the remaining minutes.
The Flashes held the advantage over the Chippewas in shots (18-5), shots on goal (7-4), and corner kick opportunities. Harris and freshman Kelsey Salopek led the box score with four shots each, while Salopek posted a team-high three shots on goal. Goalkeeper Sarah Melén tallied two saves on the afternoon.
The regular season will come to a close on Thursday, Oct. 27. The Flashes will host Buffalo in the regular season finale at 3 p.m. at Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium.
