KENT- Six Golden Flashes' pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts in a 7-1 fall ball exhibition victory over the Malone Pioneers on Thursday night at Schoonover Stadium.
Each of the six Kent State hurlers recorded at least two strikeouts in their outing with Cal transfer Mitchell Scott putting the exclamation point on the evening by striking out the side in the ninth.
Benny Roebuck got the nod to start Thursday's game and struck out four in his two innings of work, allowing three soft singles and an earned run in his first action since the 2021 season. Richie Dell and Purdue transfer Joe Whitman followed with two innings each of scoreless relief. Dell retired all six batters he faced while striking out two and Whitman struck out three and worked around a one-out double. Jack Kartsonas and Calvin Bickerstaff also worked clean innings while striking out a pair and turned it over to Scott for the ninth.
Jake Casey had the big blow in the game offensively, slicing a bases-clearing double down the left field line as part of a five-run second. Collin Mathews and freshman Kolton Schaller each added run-scoring singles and Josh Mrozek cracked a solo shot in the ninth to round out the scoring.
The Flashes are back in fall ball action on Saturday, October 22nd when they take on the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles in Evansville. Tickets for the exhibition are available through the USI website.
