Kent, Ohio -Â The Kent State men's basketball team extended their record to 3-0 against Portland 77-65 this evening at the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes got off to a hot start instantly. With the Flashes stellar defense and the offense scoring at will the Flashes made it look easy holding Portland to a season low 65 points.Â
Malique Jacobs and Sincere Carry were back on the court together again and made their impact felt. After sitting out due to injury, Malique Jacobs came back fresh and ready to have his name written in the books. Jacobs was unstoppable scoring a game-high 21 points and four assists. Not only did Jacobs make a difference in the offense, but he continued to fight strong defensiviely recording six rebounds. Carry continued to help the offense out significantly recording 14 points and 4 assists.Â
Miryne Thomas did not stay quiet posting double-digits towards the 77-65 victory. Thomas has scored double-digits in all three games this season.Â
Though the offense helped the team towards victory, there would be no win if it were not for the team's defense. The defense was aggressive on the board recording 23 rebounds. Both teams had plenty of time on the free-throw line due to a significant amount of fouls. The team capitalized on these opportunities and kept the momentum up despite foul trouble.Â
The Flashes stopped the Pilot's two leading scorers, Moses Wood and Tyer Robertson. Both players had averaged over 15+ points per game and tonight our defense did not allow either of them to record more then 13 points. Cli'Ron Hornbeak has improved each and every game he has played in. Tonight, Hornbeak had a game-high 10 rebounds, significantly impacting the game. Hornbeak also chipped in nine points.Â
Coach Senderoff was pleased with tonight's performance and looks ahead to Wednesday's game against Arkansas Pine Bluff.Â
