KENT- Kent State Athletics set a new department record for Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in the latest report issued by the NCAA.
The Golden Flashes had their GSR increase from 89 to 90 percent since the last report  which meets the GSR Academic Performance Fund benchmark for the NCAA Academic Based Revenue distribution initiative. It is the highest GSR score for Kent State, dating back to the 1998 cohort year.
"Kent State Athletics was built on a foundation of graduating student-athletes and this mission is evident once again in the newly released graduation success rates," said Senior Associate Athletics Director Angie Hull, who oversees academics. "Breaking the 90-percentile mark is a monumental achievement and one we look forward to continuing to grow."
Kent State saw 11 of the 14 sports post a GSR rate over 90 percent and all 14 sports were over the federal average. Seven sports (men's golf, women's golf, women's basketball, women's cross-country/track, gymnastics, softball and volleyball) all posted a perfect 100 percent GSR.
The latest report accounts for the student-athletes who began as freshmen during the 2015-16 academic year. The Graduation Success Rate is the proportion of student-athletes in the cohort that graduated within six years, but differs from the Federal Graduation Rate in that it also takes into consideration students that transferred into the university or enrolled at midyear.
