KENT, OHIO-Â Kent State's Brady Chrisman has been named the Mid-American Conference's Wrestler of the Week for his efforts against Cleveland State and Clarion.
The starter at 165 pounds, Chrisman had a pair of impressive victories last week, helping the Golden Flashes top both the Vikings and Golden Eagles. On Thursday night, Chrisman knocked off Cleveland State's Riley Smucker, who came into the bout as the number-two wrestler at 165 pounds in the MAC. Chrisman got the match into overtime, then got a thrilling takedown in the first extra frame to claim a 7-5 victory.
He was back at it again on Sunday against Clarion, this time against Cam Pine, the MAC's number-four wrestler. Chrisman ground out a defensive battle, winning 2-0, using an escape and the riding time bonus to claim the victory.
The wins were numbers 10 and 11 on the season for Chrisman, who has some momentum going into another two-dual week for Kent State. First up, the Golden Flashes will host Ohio University on Friday night at 7 p.m. in the annual Grudge Match and it will also be alumni night and senior night for the wrestling program.
