Cardinals Beat Flashes in Series Finale

MUNCIE, Ind. – Kent State was defeated by host Ball State, 11-3, in five innings Saturday afternoon as the teams concluded a Mid-American Conference series.
The Golden Flashes (9-17, 1-7 MAC) were led by fifth-year Madyson Cole, who went 2-for-2 at the plate and hit a three-run homer.
Ball State hit four home runs on the day, including a three-run shot in the bottom of the first and a two-run shot in the bottom of the second to take an early 6-0 lead.
Kent State cut its deficit in half in the top of the third, which began with a bunt single by senior Brooklyn Whitt. Junior Julia Mazanec followed with a single up the middle. Both scored on Cole's fourth home run of the season later in the frame.
An error to start the bottom of the third led to a pair of unearned runs, as the Cardinals extended their lead to 8-3. Ball State homered twice in the bottom of the fifth to make it 11-3 and end the game.
Kent State will host Central Michigan for three games at the Diamond at Dix this week. The teams are scheduled for a single game at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5 and a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6.
