
Stricklen’s 5K Record Highlights Big Night for Distance Crew

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Graduate student Nick Stricklen set the Kent State track and field record in the men's 5,000-meter run to lead the way as four Golden Flashes posted times in mid-distance and distance races that rank in the top-10 in school history at the Indiana Invitational on Friday.
In just his second race as a Kent State student-athlete and his first outdoor 5K as collegian, Stricklen etched his name in program history with a record time of 14:06.57 to finish sixth overall. Fellow graduate student Stephanie Ward recorded the fifth-fastest women's 5K time in Flashes history, finishing in 17:11.75 to place 22nd.
Baidy Ba moved to fifth on Kent State's all-time list in the men's 1,500-meter run with a personal-best time of 3:45.77 to finish 11th. Drew Johnson was close behind in 15th with a personal-best time of 3:47.09 to remain at the No. 10 spot in program history.
Kent State had three additional runners post top-10 finishes on Friday, led by Alexandria Verbancic's seventh-place performance in the women's 400-meter hurdles (1:02.54). Asa Hodrick ran a season-best 21.16 seconds to take eighth in the men's 200-meter dash. Korie Davis II finished 10th in the men's 400m hurdles with a personal-best time of 55.37 seconds.
The Flashes will conclude competition at the Indiana Invitational on Saturday with field events scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and running events at 2:45 p.m.
