Flashes Fall in #CCWagonWheel Finale, Settle for Series Split

AKRON, OHIO- The Golden Flashes dropped the finale of the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge 7-3 on Sunday afternoon at Skeeles Field in Akron.
Kent State had 10 hits on Sunday, but left 13 on base in Sunday's setback. Josh Johnson led the way, going 3-for-four with a run scored, it was his fourth multi-hit game of the weekend.
The Zips struck first on Sunday, scoring a two-out run in the second on a rbi single. Kent State answered back with Collin Mathews singling home Josh Johnson and Jake Reifsnyder working a bases-loaded walk. The Zips countered with two of their own in their half of the fourth as Michael Sprockett hit his first of two, two-run homers on the day to make it a 3-2 ball game.
The Flashes got the tying run to third in the fifth but couldn't bring home Justin Kirby. An inning later, Justin Miknis was cut down at home off a pinch-hit single from Nick Elsen. Sprockett's second homer came in the sixth to make it 5-2. Kent State loaded the bases in the seventh but couldn't score. They settled for one in the eighth and had the tying run at second but couldn't find the equalizer. Akron added insurance runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 7-3 and squashed another Flashes' threat in the top of the ninth.
The loss drops Kent State to 17-22 overall and 12-14 in the MAC. The Flashes return home for a five-game home stand next week starting on Wednesday against Ohio State. First pitch from Schoonover is set for 6 p.m.
