KENT, Ohio – The Kent State women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought match to the visiting Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-0.
Oakland opened the scoring in the 16th minute, sneaking a shot past goalkeeper Sarah Melén. The Flashes were able to create multiple opportunities for themselves through the midfield but could not find a way to get the ball in the back of the net. In the 87th minute, Oakland put the game out of reach, scoring a backbreaker to seal their win.
Kent State was able to generate 12 shots on the day and kept pressure on the Oakland defense all afternoon. The Golden Flashes also topped Oakland in corner kicks, garnering six for the match.Â
Melén recorded three saves for the match.
The Flashes return to action next Sunday, Aug. 28, when they travel to Dayton for the first road test of the season against the Flyers.Â
