
Flashes Face Western Michigan in MAC Opener

Kent, Ohio - The Kent State men's basketball team (10-3) returns to the M.A.C. Center for their first MAC Conference game against Western Michigan (4-9). The Flashes are on a roll at home with an undefeated 6-0 record and a four-game win streak. The Flashes have not been 7-0 at home since the 2013-14 season. The Flashes have won their last two meetings against the Broncos, holding a 67-58 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams.
The Flashes finished the 2022 year winning the Sun Bowl Tournament Title for the first since 1999. The Flashes took down both New Mexico State (73-63) and the University of Texas at El Paso (47-46). Sincere Carry goes into the team's first MAC Conference game after being named the Sun Bowl Tournament MVP and MAC Player of the Week. Carry has been a continuous contributor to the Flashes offense, scoring double-digits 12 times and recording 1,579 career points putting him fifth in Kent State history.Â
Malique Jacobs has dominated on both sides of the court with 12.8Â points per game and leads the NCAA with 3.5 steals per game. The redshirt senior poured in a game-high 17 points against New Mexico State on Dec. 21.Â
The Flashes have not lost more than four home games in a single season since 2016-17, and the team has a 50-13 record at the MACC during that time. The Flashes are going into Tuesday night's game as the top-ranked team in the MAC.Â
Scouting Western MichiganÂ
The 4-9 Western Michigan men's basketball team will begin their MAC Conference schedule Tuesday at Kent State. Western Michigan has won three of their last five season conference openers. The Broncos are 17-42 all-time at KSU, with the last road victory over the Golden Flashes coming on Jan. 23, 2014.Â
The Broncos are coming off a 76-66 loss at #15 Wisconsin on Friday night to wrap up non-conference play. The Broncos currently dominate the MAC in rebounding margin (+9.6) and offensive rebounding (12.8).Â
Broncos' Lamar Norman Jr. will be facing former teammate Sincere Carry for the second time since the duo transferred from Duquesne after the 2020-21 season. Carry and Norman Jr. both lead their offense with Norman (17.8 PPG) ranked seventh in the MAC and Carry (16.9 PPG) ranked eighth in the MAC Conf. In last season's meeting, Norman scored 22 points, while Carry tallied 14 in the KSU win.Â
