Flashes Head to NIU In Hopes of Keeping their Winning Streak Alive

DeKalb, IL.- The Kent State men's basketball team (16-3) travels to face the Northern Illinois University Huskies (7-12) on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.
The Flashes are 6-0 in MAC play after knocking Ball State from second place to third in the Mid-American Conference. They are now on a 10-game win streak, which is their best start since the 2005-06 season. The Flashes' 10-game win streak is also tied for the third-longest winning streak in the country.
The victory over Ball State was a team effort as 10 out of 12 players scored. The bench was a huge contributor recording 43 of the 86 points. Four of the Flashes reached double-digits, including two non-starters. The Flashes shot 50.8% from the field and 42.9% from the three and dominated down low with almost half of their points in the paint (42).
The Flashes have dominated defensively averaging 9.89 steals per game and leading the MAC with the most steals this season (188). They also hold their opponents to an average of 62.4 points per game.
Last season, the Huskies and Golden Flashes split a pair of meetings, with both teams winning on the road. The Flashes finished the conference with a win against the Huskies, 63-55 in the 2022 season.
Scouting the Huskies
The Northern Illinois Huskies will be defending their home court after back-to-back wins on the road. The Huskies finished the weekend with a 21-point win over Eastern Michigan University. They are currently sitting in seventh place in the MAC (3-3).
NIU shot 59.3% from the field and 40% from the three in their last game against EMU. The Huskies had four players score double-digits including David Coit who scored a game-high 24 points.
Guard Keyshawn Williams is seventh in the MAC with 17.9 points per game and Kaleb Thornton is seventh with 3.5 assists per game. Thornton is also seventh with a 41.9 three-point percentage. As a whole, the Huskies are scoring 69.6 points per game and rank eleventh in both scoring and scoring margin.

Next up, Kent State will return to the M.A.C. Center to face Buffalo on Friday, Jan. 27. Tip-off time is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET. The game will be live on ESPNU and 850 AM ESPN Cleveland.
