Knapp Closes Undefeated Weekend, Clarion Takes Dual

KENT- Keegan Knapp won for the second time this weekend and Kody Komara added a shutout, highlighting the Flashes' "Beauty and the Beast" dual with Clarion.
Clarion took the dual 29-6 as the match took place alongside the Flashes dual victory over Western Michigan in a gymnastics dual.
Sunday's dual started at the traditional 125 pounds. Jake Ferri couldn't find the late takedown he needed as a first-period takedown by Joey Fischer proved to be the distance in a 3-1 decision.
The match of the day was at 133. Jacob Houpt and Mason Prinkley went back-and-forth for all three periods. Houpt stormed back in the third with a pair of takedowns to cut the Prinkley lead to one. That would be the result with Prinkley holding on for the 10-9 victory.
After a major decision for Clarion at 141, the Flashes would pick up the next two bouts. Kody Komara would score a takedown in the first and earned the riding time bonus with a dominant first period. He'd add an escape in the second and that bonus point gave him the 4-0 shutout.
Knapp followed his major decision victory on Friday with another strong showing on Sunday. Knapp recorded a first period takedown and backed that up with a second take down and a near fall to take a 8-2 lead. Elfvin would close the gap but Knapp would close strong with another takedown to win 13-8.
Clarion would take the final five matches of the evening. Jacob Cover lost a back-and-forth match with Austin Chapman. Cover rallied with a third period take down to tie the bout at five, but a late escape and takedown by Chapman gave him an 8-6 victory. Kent State hits the road for two more matches next weekend. First up is the annual grudge match with Ohio University. Friday night's rivalry dual starts at 7 p.m. from the Convocation Center in Athens. '
