KENT- Nine Golden Flashes combined for 14 strike outs and a six-hit shutout on Wednesday night in a 6-0 Kent State victory over the Malone Pioneers in a fall ball exhibition at Schoonover Stadium.
Jake Casey cracked a pair of home runs and drove in three in the victory. Kolton Schaller added to the excitement with an inside-the-park home run that caromed off the top of the right-center field wall in the second.
That would be more than enough for the Kent State pitching staff as they spun a gem on Wednesday night, scattering six hits across nine innings. The staff walked only one while striking out 14, Rocco Bernadina and Ciaran Caughey both struck out the side in their inning of work. Newcomers Joe Micelli (Gardner-Webb) and Gavin Jones (Alabama) both worked three-up, three-down frames.
Kent State has one more fall ball date left, heading to Seton Hill to take on the Griffins on October 14th.
