Kent, OH - In a game with 11 lead changes and eight ties the Flashes fell to the College of Charleston 84-78 inside the M.A.C. Center. The Flashes will look to bounce back against Shawnee State University on Thursday, Nov. 30. Tip-off time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Both teams came out strong, with a foul on Chris Payton Jr. just minutes in the Flashes were on the board 2-0. The Cougars did not let the Flashes slide hitting back-to-back shots from the three leaving off right where they ended against Coastal Carolina University where they recorded 17 threes. The Flashes stayed strong in the paint recording 22 shots while the bench contributed to the Flashes' six-point lead at the half with 17 points.
Despite the Flashes having a six-point lead at half the Cougars answered going on a 17-0 run. The Flashes took advantage at the charity stripe shooting 80 percent to help close the gap. Jalen Sullinger also recorded a game-high 23 points and seven boards and shot a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. VonCameron Davis came off the bench recording 19 points. Sullinger was able to make it a two-point game after being fouled with 54 seconds left in the game. Though the score was close with less than a minute left, the Cougars took advantage of fouls and made every shot count.
Head Coach Rob Senderoff was disappointed with the team's second-half performance stating "We did not come out with a great mindset going into the second half and did not take good shots. To win these games, we have to play like them. Our schedule is not easy and the rest of our non-conference games will be similar to the College of Charleston."
