
Castro Sixth, Flashes Ninth at Clarion Open

CLARION, PA- Pablo Castro finished in sixth place at 133 pounds, helping the Golden Flashes finish ninth in a deep field at the Clarion Open.
Castro picked up five victories on Sunday, including a major decision victory and a fall. Castro pinned Andrew Hampton the projected starter for Michigan State midway through the second period to advance through the wrestle backs.
At 141 pounds, Billy Meiszner had a strong day, also picking up five wins on the day. Meiszner picked up two victories by fall and two by major decision. He pinned Garett Lautzenheiser of Ohio State and Aaron Lanster of Buffalo.
Dillon Carlson racked up four wins at 157 pounds, all by decision. Carlson ground out 5-1, 4-2 and 3-1 wins on Sunday, defeating wrestlers from Bucknell, Ohio State and Edinboro. Several wrestlers picked up a pair of wins on Sunday, led by heavyweight Josh Broggan. Broggan early a first-period fall in his win over Will Hotaling of Buffalo and then dominated Mike Mazurek of Pitt-Johnstown, earning at 19-3 tech fall.
As a team, the Flashes earned 59 points, good for ninth out of the 29 team field. That does not include the 5.5 earned by Keegan Knapp and Matt Ryan who picked up an additional 5.5 points between them, but wrestled unattached.
