MURRAY, KY- The Flashes used a four-run third and five-and-two-thirds innings of shutout relief in a 4-3 victory on Wednesday afternoon and a sweep of the Murray State Racers.

Ritchie Dell through four-and-a-third innings of shutout ball to pick up the victory. The righty struck out six in relief of Benny Roebuck who went the first three and a third. Mitch Scott closed it out for his second save of the week, striking out the side and pitching around a lead-off walk and a single.

Wednesday's game mirrored Tuesday's with the Racers striking first with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first. The Flashes threatened in the second but left the bases loaded and broke through in the third.

Kyle Jackson led the inning off with a walk and scored a batter later on Collin Mathews' two-run double. Aidan Longwell continued his torrid streak with a frozen rope over the right field wall for his second homer of the series, giving Kent State a 3-2 lead. Michael McNamara gave the Flashes a 4-2 lead after he scored in little league fashion. The junior singled, stole second, stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher on the theft of third.

Murray State got an unearned run back in the bottom of the third, but that would finish the scoring for both teams. The Flashes' relievers and defense would shut down the Racers over the final five innings. Only three Racers would get into scoring position as Kent State threw out a pair of would be base stealers along the way.

The victory evens Kent State at 4-4 on the season and drops the Racers to 2-7. The Flashes wrap up the road trip this weekend, heading to Martin, Tennessee to face the UT-Martin Skyhawks. First pitch of the series is set for 6 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. CT and will stream on ESPN +.
