KENT- Kent State first baseman and pitcher Aidan Longwell earned his second Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, for his efforts in the Flashes' 4-0 week.
Longwell hit a sizzling .500 (8-16) over the four games with a homer and 14 runs driven in. The Massillon native drove in at least one run in all four games including 13 in the three-game sweep of the Canisius Golden Griffins. Longwell hit 5-for-9 with runners in scoring position, and upped his RBI total to a nation leading 40. The lefty leads the NCAA in both RBI (40) and RBI per game (2.11). In addition to the RBI numbers, he leads the club and the conference with a .430 average and 34 base hits on the season.
Longwell also excelled on the mound, getting the start against the Lake Erie College Storm. The lefty retired all nine batters he faced including the final seven by strikeout. The presumptive mid-week starter for the Flashes improved his pitching numbers to 1-0 on the season with a sterling 1.72 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 15.1 innings and a paltry .115 batting average against.
The Flashes will take a 13-game win streak into Pittsburgh tomorrow to face the Pitt Panthers. First pitch from the Steel City is set for 3 p.m. and can be seen on the ACC Digital Network.
