Flashes Open the 2023 Home Season in Grand Fashion

KENT- The Golden Flashes put up a crooked number in each of the first four innings and scored the most runs in a game since 2012 in a 22-1 victory over Youngstown State in the 2023 home opener for the Flashes.
Kent State cracked five homers, including two by Jake Casey and rapped out 21 hits in the one-sided affair. Casey drove in seven on the day, one of four Golden Flashes to drive in more than one run and one of 11 different hitters to drive at least one run home.
The Golden Flashes scored three in the first, six in the second, seven in the third, three more in the fourth and a trio in the sixth on Tuesday afternoon. Casey stole the show at the plate with his two-homer day, both titanic drives to right for a grand slam in the second and a three-run homer an inning later.
The offensive outburst was in support of Aidan Longwell. The lefty got his second start of the season and retired the first 14 batters he faced. He "settled" for five shutout innings, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out nine. He also helped his own cause with a solo homer in the second and scored twice. Richie Dell got the final six outs on Tuesday, allowing a hit and an unearned run while walking one and striking out two.
The win runs the Kent State win streak to six and the Flashes sit at 8-4 overall while Youngstown State is 3-10. The Flashes stay at home this weekend and welcome in Northern Illinois to start conference play. The three-game series is set to begin on Friday afternoon.
