
Golden Flashes Travel to Ohio for Mid-Week Series

The Kent State softball team continues Mid-American Conference play with a three-game series at Ohio. A single game is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Tuesday with a doubleheader slated to start at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

About the Flashes
Kent State (9-23, 4-6 MAC) lost two of three games against Northern Illinois over the weekend despite a 12-11 scoring advantage. Junior Jade Ramer and redshirt senior Alexandria Whitmore led the way at the plate with four hits each. Junior Emily Lippe and sophomore Delaney Robeson both homered twice. Lippe had a team-high three RBIs and reached base in 7 of 11 trips to the plate.
On the season, freshman Bri Despines leads the offense with a .333 batting average and nine doubles while driving in 14 runs. Despines has reached safely in 16 consecutive games and has a team-high .436 on-base percentage. Junior Emily Lippe is tied for third in the MAC with nine home runs and has a team-best 22 RBIs. Redshirt senior Alexandria Whitmore is batting .410 during her current 12-game hitting streak.
Freshman Macy Irelan (5-9) has recorded 47 strikeouts in a team-high 24 appearances and is tied for the conference lead with three saves. Redshirt senior Anilese Kelly (3-9) leads the pitching staff with 61 strikeouts over 93.1 innings and a 4.13 ERA.
Scouting Ohio
The Bobcats (21-16, 11-4 MAC) sit atop the MAC standings despite losing two of three games at Central Michigan over the weekend. Ohio swept each of its previous three conference series and had won 10 games in a row. The Bobcats ranks third in the MAC in runs per game (4.92) and batting average (.287).
Annalia Paoli is the conference leader with 32 RBIs. Paoli has totaled 18 extra-base hits and owns a .345 batting average. Yasmine Logan (24), Alexis Dawe (21) and Emma Hoffner (20) also have 20 or more RBIs on the season.
The pitching staff owns the second lowest ERA (3.17) in the conference. Skipp Miller (11-8) leads the way with a 2.81 ERA and 85 strikeouts over 122.0 innings. Kylie Coffelt (7-5) adds 49 strikeouts and a 3.51 ERA over 85.2 innings.
Series History
Kent State is 73-56 all-time against Ohio. The Bobcats have won each of the past three meetings. The Golden Flashes were victorious in their most recent trip to Athens, coming away with a 1-0 win on April 10, 2019. Head coach Eric Oakley has gone 9-13 against the Bobcats.
On Deck
Kent State is scheduled to host Toledo for a three-game series on April 15-16.
