Miami Takes Both Ends of Saturday Double Header

OXFORD-The Miami Redhawks took both ends of a Saturday double header, winning game one 12-3 and 5-4 in 10 innings in the night cap.

GAME ONE: Miami 12 Kent State 3

Miami jumped out early in the series opener, scoring two in the first and adding four more in the third. Kent State rallied back with two in the fourth, loading the bases and taking advantage of a pair of Miami miscues. Aidan Longwell added a sac fly an inning later to make it a three-run game, but that would be as close as the Flashes would get. The RedHawks added insurance runs in the sixth and again in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

GAME TWO: Miami 5 Kent State 4 (10 Innings)

Kent State put up a picket fence in game two, scoring single tallies in the second, third, fourth and sixth in game two. Michael McNamara enjoyed his second two-homer game of the week, hitting a pair of solo shots to lead the offense. Justin Miknis added a blast of his own and Collin Mathews added a run-scoring single.

Joe Whitman struck out eight and allowed two earned as he pitched into the sixth. However, Miami kept chipping away at the Flashes' lead. The RedHawks scored a run in the seventh, then got a game-tying homer off closer Mitchell Scott in the ninth to force extras. In the 10^th, Ryland Zaborowski, the MAC leader in home runs, ended it with a one-out solo homer.

The losses move Kent State to 26-12 overall and 12-5 in MAC play, a half-game behind Ohio and deadlocked with Central Michigan and Ball State. The series will wrap tomorrow with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
