BEREA, Ohio – The Kent State softball team lost both games of a Mid-American Conference doubleheader with Northern Illinois on Saturday, 5-2 and 2-1, at BW Softball Field.

Junior Jade Ramer led the Golden Flashes (9-23, 4-6 MAC) at the plate with three hits. Redshirt senior Alexandria Whitmore had a single in each game and extended her hitting streak to 12 games.

Game 1: Northern Illinois 5, Kent State 2
Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Emily Lippe and Delaney Robeson hit back-to-back home runs for the second day in a row to get within three. Jade Ramer followed with a single and Reagan Schultz drew a walk to bring the tying run to the plate, but the Flashes were unable to add more runs.

Kent State got two aboard in the bottom of the seventh to once again send the tyin run to the plate but a groundball to the shortstop ended the game.

Macy Irelan (5-9) recorded five strikeouts and allowed three earned on 11 hits.

Game 2: Northern Illinois 2, Kent State 1
Anilese Kelly (3-9) did not allow an earned run and had four strikeouts in a complete game performance.

Kent State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Reagan Schultz got it started with a double down the right field line. Schultz advanced to third on a groundout to the right side and then scored on a single up the middle by Julia Mazanec.

A throwing error helped Northern Illinois scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead.

The Flashes threatened in each of their final four trips to the plate but left two runners on base in each inning.

Mazanec and Bri Despines had two hits each in the game. Despines also threw out two Huskies attempting to steal bases.

Kent State will travel Ohio for a MAC series on April 11-12.
