Duncan Earns 300th Win at Kent State as Flashes Earn Sweep

BOWLING GREEN-Kyle Jackson had three hits and a fine play on the final out of the game to secure a 4-2 victory over Bowling Green on Sunday, completing the sweep and earning head coach Jeff Duncan his 300^th win at Kent State.

Eric Chalus struck out six in his 5.1 innings of work, allowing only one run on five hits. Mitchell Scott earned his second save of the weekend, getting the final six outs of the day for his fifth save of the season.

The teams traded first-inning homers on Sunday with Jackson hitting a solo shot to lead off the game for the second-straight day. It would stay 1-1 until the sixth with neither team posing much of a threat. Jackson again was the catalyst for the Golden Flashes' offense, leading off the inning with a double. The Flashes would load the bases with nobody out and Aidan Longwell brought in Jackson on a sacrifice fly.

The Flashes added to the lead an inning later. Jackson's third hit of the game drove in his second run of the afternoon, scoring Jake Casey. Collin Mathews followed with a sac fly to make it a 4-1 lead.

Bowling Green would load the bases in the eighth with nobody out. After walking the first batter he faced, Scott put out the fire with a strikeout and a pair of force outs to limit the Falcons to a single run. Scott pitched around a lead-off single in the ninth and slammed the door on the sweep and win 300 for Coach Duncan.

Duncan joins Rick Rembielak (373 wins) and Scott Stricklin (350 wins) as members of the exclusive 300 win club at Kent State. The victory moves Kent State to 21-10 on the season and 9-3 in the MAC. Bowling Green drops to 11-17 overall and 6-9 in conference play. The Flashes are back at home for four games next week, starting on Tuesday with the Pitt Panthers in town. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
