YPSILANTI, Mich. – Jack Kartsonas shined on the mound for Kent State as the Golden Flashes pulled out a 1-0 win to take the series against Eastern Michigan.
Kartsonas was handed the ball in the rubber match and put together his best start as a Flash. The senior threw eight shutout innings, holding the Eagles to just three hits and allowing zero walks on just 80 pitches to earn his second win of the campaign. Kartsonas stuck out four batters and did not allow a baserunner after the fifth inning.
The Flashes loaded the bases in the top of the first innings after Justin Miknis and Aidan Longwell singled and Michael McNamara drew a walk. With a 3-1 count and two away, Kolton Schaller drew a walk to score the game's lone run.
Mitchell Scott earned his second save of the weekend after retiring the side in the ninth, upping his save total on the year to a nation-leading 14.
Kent State improves to 37-14 overall and 21-6 in Mid-American Conference play. The Flashes stay on the road to wrap up the regular season and will look to clinch the MAC regular season title with a three-game series set against Ball State in Muncie from May 18-20.
