Bats Stay Hot - Flashes Fly By Cardinals

MUNCIE, IN-The Golden Flashes picked up right where they left off on Thursday, hammering out six more home runs in a 14-3 victory over the host Ball State Cardinals on Friday afternoon.

The Flashes cracked five homers in the third inning alone. Mack Timbrook, Collin Mathews and Justin Miknis went back-to-back-to-back in the inning, the first time the Flashes had done that since Josh Hollander, Nick Kanavas and Luke Burch did it at Western Carolina in March of 2017. Mike and Kyle Jackson followed with back-to-back jacks of their own with only an Aidan Longwell hit by pitch stopping the streak. The six-run third inning for the Flashes was only the start of the Flashes' offense on Friday.

An inning later, Kent State added five more. Miknis struck again, this time with a two-run single. Four batters later, Brody Williams cracked a three-run homer to left center to make it an 11-1 ballgame. That was more than enough for Friday starter Joe Whitman. The lefty limited a potent Ball State offense to a run on two hits in his five innings of work. He improved to 9-1 on the season and struck out five in the victory. Calvin Bickerstaff and Jordan Kolenda finished things out for the lefty, each striking out three.

Five Golden Flashes enjoyed multi-hit games as Kent State rapped out 12 more hits in the win and have crossed the plate 43 times in the series thus far. The win puts Kent State at 39-13 on the year and 23-6 in the MAC. They will go for the sweep in the regular season finale tomorrow, first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
