SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – After the third round of this year's NCAA Championships, freshman Leon Takagi closed out her individual run in a tie for 47th, at just three strokes over par.
The Tokyo native played steady on the links all week, carding a 71 in the opener, a 72 on Saturday and a 76 on Sunday to finish second among the six individuals competing, missing the elimination cut by just a single stroke.
"It was great for Leon to experience the NCAA finals," KSU head coach Casey VanDamme said. "She left some shots out there but she battled until the end and this experience should help her moving forward."
The top 15 teams (Stanford, Wake Forest, Texas, USC, Florida State, South Carolina, Arizona, Texas A&M, Pepperdine, Georgia, Oklahoma State, New Mexico, LSU, Mississippi State and SMU) will advance to the final round on Monday, as well as the top six individuals who will compete for an NCAA title.
