KENT-The Golden Flashes dropped the winner's bracket game on Thursday night, falling 6-1 to Ball State.
The story of Thursday night was Ball State starter Trennor O'Donnell who out dueled Joe Whitman in a match-up of first-team all-conference hurlers. Whitman was excellent, throwing seven innings of two earned run ball, but it was a string of four base hits in the fifth inning that proved to be the difference. Ball State struck for four in that frame, all with two out, breaking a scoreless tie.
That was the difference in the ball game, the Flashes were able to get two runners on in the sixth, the only time they got a runner into scoring position before the ninth. Ball State added insurance in the ninth before Michael McNamara knocked in Aidan Longwell who hit a two-out double in the ninth.
The loss drops the Golden Flashes into an elimination game on Friday afternoon against Central Michigan at 12:30 p.m. The winner of tomorrow's contest will advance on to championship Saturday and a rematch with Ball State.
