Schoony Heartbreak, Ball State Rallies Past Flashes

KENT-It was heartbreak at Schoonover Stadium on Saturday afternoon as a late Kent State comeback was thwarted by a late Ball State rally in a 12-9 defeat in the conference title game.
The Golden Flashes had rallied back from an 8-2 deficit, scoring five runs in the seventh and taking the lead in the eighth on a two-run home run from Justin Miknis.
Kent State's Mitch Scott had gotten the first two outs in the top of the ninth before a Justin Conant double kept the inning alive. Back-to-back walks followed and Adam Tellier hit a 1-1 pitch over the left-field wall for what proved to be a game-winning grand slam.
The Flashes threatened in the bottom of the ninth, putting two runners on and getting the tying run to the plate. But Ball State would get the final out and clinch their first conference tournament title since 2006.
Kyle Jackson, Aidan Longwell and Collin Mathews earned all-tournament honors for the Flashes. With 42 wins and a top-50 RPI, the Flashes will hope to hear their name called on selection Monday.
