ANN ARBOR-The Golden Flashes found themselves on the wrong end back-and-forth 7-5 ballgame on Wednesday night, dropping a mid-week contest against the Michigan Wolverines.
Kent State got homers from a pair of freshmen as Kolten Schaller blasted a two-run homer in the fourth and Brody Williams came off the bench for a solo shot in the ninth. But it was a two-run homer in the fifth for Michigan left fielder Tito Flores that proved to be the difference.
Michael McNamara got the Flashes on top first, roping a double down the left field line to plate Justin Miknis, putting Kent State up 1-0. The Wolverines would plate runs in each of the first two innings to grab the lead until Schaller's blast gave Kent State the lead.
The Wolverines would score the next three to lead 5-3 before Josh Johnson split the right-center gap for a triple in the sixth. The three-bagger scored Kyle Jackson to make it a 5-4 game, but the Flashes would get no closer. Michigan added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth before Williams' homer in the ninth.
The loss drops Kent State to 31-13 on the season while Michigan improves to 22-20. The Flashes continue Michigan week on Friday as Western comes to town for a three-game series. Senior weekend gets started on Friday night with a 6 p.m. first pitch.
