KENT- Joe Whitman was named First-Team All-America by Collegiate Baseball, headlining three All-America honors for the Golden Flashes.
Reliever Mitchell Scott earned second team All-America honors and junior first baseman Aidan Longwell earned a third-team All-America nod.
The three Collegiate Baseball All-Americans are the most in a single season in program history, tying the 2012 squad that saw Jimmy Rider, George Roberts and David Starn earn the honor. The Flashes put two on the squads in 2011 (Kyle Hallock and Kyle McMillen) and 2016 (Eric Lauer and Eli Kraus).
The Mid-American Conference's Pitcher of the Year, Whitman went 9-2 on the season with a 2.56 ERA. In 15 starts, Whitman tossed 81 innings for the Flashes, allowing only 63 hits and 29 walks while striking out 100. He's the first Collegiate Baseball First-Team All-American for the Flashes since Joey Murray in 2018.
Scott was a first-team All-Conference pitcher for the Golden Flashes and was electric out of the Kent State bullpen. Scott recorded a Division-I leading 15 saves, the second-most in a season in Golden Flashes' history. The righty posted a 1.94 earned run average while striking out 65 in 46.1 innings.
Longwell put together a season for the ages and became the first position player to earn All-America honors since George Roberts in 2012. Longwell hit .409 on the season, the highest average in a season at Kent State since John VanBenschoten hit .440 in 2001. His 75 RBI are the third-most ever at Kent State and his 94 hits and 23 doubles rank in the top-10 all-time for a season at Kent State.
The Golden Flashes finished the season at 42-16, the most wins in a campaign since 2016.
