KENT- The Golden Flashes continue to rake in All-America awards as pitchers Joe Whitman and Mitchell Scott have added honors from The National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the American College Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Perfect Game.
Scott earned second-team All-America honors from the NCBWA while Whitman was named Third-Team All-America by the ABCA. Both pitchers earned a spot on the Perfect Game All-America teams, with Whitman grabbing second team honors and Scott being named to the third team.
Whitman and Scott become the first Golden Flashes to earn ABCA and Perfect Game All-America nods since Eric Lauer was named to both first teams in 2016. The last NCBWA All-American for the Flashes was Ben Carew back in 2019.
Both pitchers were dominant for the Flashes this year, earning All-Conference, All-Region and now All-America accolades. Whitman was the MAC Pitcher of the Year and finished the campaign with a 9-2 record and a 2.56 earned run average, striking out 100 batters in 81 innings of work. Scott was a finalist for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year after tying for the NCAA lead with 15 saves. He compiled a 2-2 record with a 1.94 earned run average, striking out 65 in 46 innings and holding batters to a .176 batting average against.
Thanks in part to both pitchers' efforts, the Flashes went 42-16 this year and won the MAC regular season by five games with a 24-6 record. The 42 wins are the most for the Flashes since a 44 win season back in 2016.
