Flashes 2023 Season Kick Off in Virginia

The Kent State field hockey team travels to Virginia to kick off the 2023 season against No. 14 Liberty on Friday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m and VCU on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 1 p.m.
About the Flashes
Led by fifth-year head coach Kyle DeSandes-Moyer, the Golden Flashes return after capturing the 2022 Mid-American Conference regular season championship. Kent State is projected to finish second in the conference after receiving 49 votes in the Preseason Coaches' Poll. To add to the strong offense on the team, the Flashes welcome five new incoming freshmen to the roster. Patricia Strunk comes back after being named MAC Freshman of the Year, NFHCA All-West Region selection, and being the top scorer on the team. All-MAC performers Iris Bekker and Maia Sarrabayrouse return while Cecile van Eijck is back in the cage after logging nearly 1,100 minutes in 2022.
Scouting No. 14 Liberty
Liberty was ranked 14th in the country by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and was ranked highest out of the BIG EAST conference for the preseason poll. The Flames enter the 2023 season as back-to-back BIG EAST champions.
Scouting VCU
The Rams were selected third in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll that was voted on by the league's coaches. Senior Georgia Carr-Brown and junior Camila Rosenbrock were named to the A-10 Preseason Team. Carr-Brown scored four goals in the season including three game-winning goals, while Rosenbrock played in all 19 games last season and recorded six goals with a pair of assists.
The Series
Liberty leads the all-time series against the Flashes 4-0. In the opening weekend last year, Kent State fell 9-0 to the Flames.
The Golden Flashes match up against the Rams after a 4-3, double overtime, victory in 2015. Kent State holds a 2-0-1 overall record over VCU.
