
Callahan Jr. Ties Kent State Field House Facility Record in Indoor Track & Field Opener

KENT, Ohio – Freshman Sean Callahan Jr. tied the Kent State Field House men's 60-meter dash record in his collegiate debut on Saturday, as the Golden Flashes recorded nine event victories at the season-opening Jud Logan Memorial.
After running the fastest time during prelims, Callahan Jr. posted a time of 6.67 seconds to win the finals and tie the facility record set in 2017 and tying for the second fastest time overall in Kent State history.
Freshman Amryne Chilton also started her career as a Flash with a win, crossing the finish line in the women's 200-meter dash in 24.79 seconds.
Senior Ethan Yost won the men's 3,000-meter run in a personal-best time of 8:39.0 and sophomore Karsyn Spears recorded a time of 5:06.38 to win the women's mile.
The final victory on the track came in the women's 4x400 relay, as Chilton, senior Taylor Korytkowski, senior Alexandria Verbancic and senior Jericha Petrella posted a time of 3:49.60. Korytkowski and Petrella both ran strong individual races earlier in the day. Korytkowski clocked a personal-best time of 7.63 seconds in the 60m prelims and followed with 7.64 seconds in the final for second place. Petrella claimed third in the 200m with a time of 25.24 seconds.
Junior Liam Vinskovich led the way in field events, winning the men's high jump in his Kent State debut. Vinskovich cleared a personal-best height of 7'-0.25" to tie for the No. 5 spot on the program's all-time performance list.
Sophomore Lanee Hall recorded a personal-best mark of 40'-3.5" to win the women's triple jump. Hall's winning jump puts her at No. 9 in Kent State history. Sophomore Keeli Dunaway jumped an indoor personal-best of 39'-8.5" to place second.
Graduate student Gabby Bailey and redshirt junior Aliesha Shaw both threw 49'-4.5" on their final attempt in the women's shot put. Bailey earned first by having the better second-best throw.
Junior Alexandre Malanda and redshirt senior Del'Mario Hairston claimed the top two spots in the men's triple jump. Malanda jumped 50'-11.5" on his final attempt and Hairston recorded a personal-best jump of 47'-4.5".
Graduate student Grace Luther won the women's weight throw with a mark of 60'-5.25"
The Flashes will host the annual Akron Dual on Friday, Jan. 19 for the second of three consecutive home meets to start the season.
