Flashes Comeback Falls Short Against Cardinals

KENT, Ohio - The Golden Flashes got career-high games from Tommy Ulatowski and Chrishon McCray but it was not enough in a 37-35 setback on a soggy Saturday at Dix Stadium.
Making just his second start of the season, Ulatowski topped 300 yards for the second time in his career. The junior threw for 394 yards on 17 completions and four touchdowns. His favorite target was Chrishon McCray who topped his 188 yard and two touchdown performance in KSU's previous game, hauling in five receptions for 213 yards and three touchdowns. McCray's big play ability was showcased with his touchdown catches covering 63 and 57 yards. Kent State's leader on the ground was Ky Thomas rushing for 70 yards on 17 carries and one touchdown.
McCray's first touchdown came in response to Ball State's opening 10 points at 14:54 in the second quarter. Following 17 unanswered points from Ball State, Ky Thomas found the endzone on a four-yard rushing touchdown with 5:47 left in the third. Kent State continued to chip away in the fourth quarter with Ulatowski finding McCray for a 63-yard touchdown pass with 6:19 left in the game cutting the Cardinal lead to just six points.
Following a Ball State field goal, Ulatowski found Luke Floriea in the back of the endzone with 1:28 remaining getting Kent State to within two points. Ball State went on to add a rushing touchdown with just over a minute left.
Kent State's final touchdown of the game came with 30 seconds left on the clock as McCray went the distance taking a short pass play 57 yards to the house. The Cardinals ran out the clock securing the 37-35 win.
Kent State will travel to take on Bowling Green next Saturday, Oct. 19. Kickoff against the Falcons is set for 3:30 p.m.
