Simmerman and Snider Crowned Champs, Lead Flashes at Michigan State Open

East Lansing, MI.- Brentan Simmerman and Kyle Snider both captured championships at the Michigan State Open.
Snider opened his tournament with a pin over Grand Valley State's Matthew Morris in 2:09. In his quarterfinal match, Snider defeated Max Ray of Ohio 2-0. Snider then defeated teammate Trent Thomas in the semifinal in OT in TB-2 4-3. In the finals, Snider scored a late takedown to beat Cory Thomas from Michigan State 4-1 and win the 184 lb. bracket.
Simmerman also opened his tournament with a pin against Raymond VanDyke of Davenport in 2:42. In the quarterfinals, Simmerman defeated Owen Hawley of Grand Valley State 5-0. In the semifinals, Simmerman won by major decision 11-3 over Edinboro's Aden Roe. Simmerman was crowned heavyweight champion after defeating Cash Henderson of Spartan Combat RTC 7-2.
Other Flashes who placed include Nico Calello in 6th, Nate Roth in 4th, Hunter Andel in 6th, Ethan Barr in 4th, Holden Martin in 3rd, Trent Thomas in 4th, and Corey Boerio in 2nd.
Kent State will return to action on Sunday, November 17th, at 1:00 PM as they head back on the road to face Bellarmine.
