INDIANAPOLIS – Kent State Athletics posted high marks on the latest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) report, as the NCAA recently released data for the 2017-18 cohort.
The Golden Flashes maintained a 90% four-year average and had five different teams– gymnastics, men's golf, women's golf, softball and volleyball - post a perfect 100%.
"Our teams have consistently demonstrated academic excellence and achieving a 90% GSR is a testament to that, which reflects Kent State's commitment to student-athlete success," Vice President, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Randale Richmond said. "I appreciate the dedication of our academic staff and coaches who ensure we are true to our mission to graduate student-athletes, boldly prepared for life after sport, and win championships."
All 14 teams held a GSR that met or exceeded the federal average for their sport. Additionally, 10 sports posted a GSR of 90% or higher and 10 teams earned an equal or better GSR rate compared to a year ago.
The GSR was developed by the NCAA as part of its academic reform initiative to more accurately measure the success of Division I student-athletes. The GSR takes into account the many different academic paths followed by today's college students.
The latest report accounts for the student-athletes who began as freshmen during the 2017-18 academic year. The Graduation Success Rate is the proportion of student-athletes in the cohort that graduated within six years but differs from the Federal Graduation Rate in that it also takes into consideration students that transferred into the university or enrolled at midyear.
