
Flashes to Face a Trio of Opponents in the Western Slam

LETHBRIDGE, Alberta – The Kent State Men's Basketball team traveled to Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada on Tuesday Nov. 26 and is in preparation for the Western Slam multi-team event. The Flashes will take on Towson University on Thursday, Nov. 28 at 9:30 p.m. ET, the University of California Irvine on Friday, Nov. 29 at 9:30 p.m. ET, and Kennesaw State University on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 7:00 p.m.
Last Time Out
Kent State defeated Cleveland State on Nov. 68-52. Hornbeak tallied 11 rebounds and 10 points for his second KSU career double-double, and the first for a Flash this season. His first double-double came against South Dakota State on Dec. 2, 2022. Hornbeak, Morales, and Davis, all tallied double-digits. Morales' 11 points were a season high and his second double-digit performance in a row. Kent State shot 84.6% from the charity stripe going 11-13, and 50% from behind the arc at 11-22.
Against the Tigers
Kent State and Towson have met on a trio of occasions with KSU sitting 1-2 in the series; the programs first met on Dec. 10, 1979, again on Nov. 11, 2019, and a third time on Dec. 6, 2021; this will be the first meeting at a neutral location. The Tigers' top three leading scorers are Tyler Tejada (14.7 ppg), Dylan Williamson (14.2 ppg), and Nendah Tarke (13.3 ppg). They enter the Slam with an overall record of 4-2.
Against the Anteaters
The Golden Flashes and Anteaters have played twice in history with both matchups occurring at neutral sights Kent State won the first meeting on Nov. 25, 2001, 75-64 as part of the University Hoops Classic in Moon Township, Pa., UC Irvine took the most recent game on Dec. 16, 2019 in the Sun Bowl Invitational in El Paso, Texas74-68. The Anteaters' top three leading scorers are Bent Lauchten (17.0 ppg), Devin Tillis (14.4 ppg), and Justin Hohn (13.6 ppg). They come into the Slam with unbeaten at 5-0.
Against the Owls
Kent State and Kennesaw State have played twice in history with Kent State winning both games. The first was on Dec. 13, 2013, in the M.A.C. Center with a 68-51 final. The second was on Dec. 6, 2015, in Kennesaw, Ga. with a 58-46 final score. The Owls have four players averaging double-digits, those being Simeon Cottie (18.2), Adrian Wooley (14.3), Jamil Miller (11.7), and Braedan Lue (11.0)
Broadcast Info
All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+. Thursday and Saturday's games will be broadcast on 1420 WHK, and Friday's game will be on 850 ESPN Cleveland. Rob Polinsky will have the call for all three broadcasts.
Next Up for Kent State
Following the Western Slam, Kent State will return to the M.A.C. Center on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7:00 p.m. to host the University of Portland.
