Kent State to Close Out 2024 at Home Against Heidelberg

KENT – Kent State Men's Basketball prepares to close out the year 2024 against Heidelberg University inside the M.A.C. Center on Sunday, Dec 29 at 3:30 p.m. The game is the second of a Kent State hoops doubleheader following women's basketball's matchup against John Carroll. Most recently the Flashes fell for just the third time this season to #6 Alabama 81-54 on Dec. 22. VonCameron Davis scored nine points on his way to surpassing 1,000 in his Kent State career during the game. He is the second Golden Flash to reach the career milestone this season joining fellow senior Jalen Sullinger on the all-time scorers list. Davis becomes the 35th player in program history to crack 1,000 points.
Against the Student Princes
The Kent State Golden Flashes and Heidelberg Student Princes have met 16 times during the regular season with Dec. 29th being the 17th. KSU holds a winning record of 11-6 over Heidelberg however, the programs have not met in the regular season since Jan. 30, 1951. Heidelberg enters this matchup with Kent State with a 6-4 record averaging 85.4 points per game with an 8.0 scoring margin. The Student Princes have four players averaging double-digits including Eric Panning (17.3), Elijah Harden (15.7), Markell Johnson-Nichols (13.2), and Zane Leitwein (11.0). Heidelberg Head Coach Andy Bucheit is in his 12th season at the helm of the HU program. He holds a 142-142 coming into this meeting with Kent State. Last season Heidelberg posted a record of 16-11 and reached the second round of the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament where they fell to Mount Union.
