KENT-The Golden Flashes wrap up the regular season at home on Thursday night, welcoming in northeast Ohio and conference rival Cleveland State for a 7 p.m. dual.
The Flashes are coming off a hard-fought 25-15 loss to Central Michigan last Friday. Kent State won three of the final four matches of the night, dominating the heavyweight portion of the dual. AJ Burkhart recorded a third-period fall and Josh Boggan knocked off the #4 ranked MAC wrestler in Bryan Caves.
Cleveland State enters the dual as the number four team in the MAC. They are 5-2 in the MAC and have won four-straight conference duals. The Vikings edged Lock Haven 22-19 last Friday before trouncing Bloomsburg 40-5 on Saturday.
The Vikings are led by their heavyweights Ben Smith and Daniel Bucknavich, who own the top spot in the MAC at 197 and 285, respectfully. Tate Geiser owns the second-seed at 165 pounds and is second on the squad with 17 wins.
Thursday night's match will be the 32nd all time between the programs, last year Cleveland State edged the Flashes 18-16 up in Cleveland. The dual will be camper reunion night as we invite campers across all Kent State sports camps to come cheer on the Flashes. It will also be Beat the Streets and Wrestlers in Business night as the wrestling program partners with a pair of local organizations.
Fans will also enjoy a beanie giveaway as well as a pre-match happy hour with discounted concessions. The first 50 students at the match will also get the chance to claim a ticket to the men's basketball game on Friday night at Akron. There will also be a post-match autograph session with the team.
The match will stream for free via Box Cast with Dan Griffin and the hall of famer Tom Evans on the call. Fans can also follow the match through social media and Track Wrestling.
The projected lineups for both teams are below, the Flashes will next turn attention to the MAC Championships, hosted by Kent State. The two-day tournament begins on Friday, March 8th.
