
Flashes Set to Host MAC Wrestling Championships

KENT- The Golden Flashes are set to host the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championships on Friday and Saturday inside the MAC Center.
The action gets started at noon on Friday and championship Saturday gets underway at 11:30 a.m. Twenty-two automatic bids to the National Tournament will be up for grabs over the course of the weekend.
Six Golden Flashes earned a top-eight seed in the conference tournament. Pablo Castro is ranked sixth at 133 pounds, Billy Meiszner is seventh at 141, Aaron Ferguson and AJ Burkhart are ranked eighth at 165 and 174, respectfully. The Flashes top-seeded wrestler is Blake Schaffer, ranked third at 197 pounds while Josh Boggan is seventh at 285. Even as the third seed, Schaffer will need to finish in the top two to secure a spot at the National Tournament.
The weight class to watch is at 157 pounds as six wrestlers are ranked in the top-32 and a conference-best five bids are up for grabs in the tournament. Seven of the 10 classes will have multiple bids available for nationals with only the champ at 133, 141 and 165 securing their spot. The full bid allocation chart is below.
The MAC Center is going four-mats wide for the conference championships and all four mats will be streamed. The conference tournament concludes the regular season for the Flashes. Those that qualify for the national tournament will compete March 21-23 in Kansas City, Missouri.
